Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson started his electrical engineering education at Arizona State University in the fall 2023 semester. Born and raised in Arizona, Matthew knew at a young age that he wanted to major in a STEM degree because of his love for math and science.
Upon weighing his options, he decided on electrical engineering for his interest in circuitry, electricity and for the wide versatility of the major. He chose ASU because they had a great engineering program and he did not want to move too far from home.
Outside the program, Matthew joined the EPICS program in Spring of 2025 and is interested in joining other programs such as the Engineering Without Boarders program. In EPICS, Matthew has worked with Indonesian students and ASU students to develop a way to teach rural communities in Indonesia about solar power and how to maintain solar panels. Matthew also enjoys building circuits, playing guitar and spending time with friends and family. After graduation, Matthew plans to pursue a master’s degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems.
