Yessenia Delgado

Yessenia Delgado began studying electrical engineering at Arizona State University in May of 2023. Although she did not know much about the major, she developed interests in electromagnetics and signal processing due to their versatility and real world applications. While initially drawn in by the scholarships, she quickly came to find out the many opportunities that ASU had to offer.

As a first generation college student, it was difficult to navigate college, but with help from her section leader, teachers and advisors, she was able to learn about and participate in many opportunities. She was able to become an undergraduate teaching assistant, a section leader and even a camp counselor for E2. Yessenia is also a peer leader for the Fulton Accelerated Community Engagement, or FACE, program for first year students that helps them develop and enhance leadership skills.

Outside of the classroom, she participates in Fulton Ambassadors, Society of Hispanic Engineers and the IEEE student chapter at ASU. She likes listening to music, spending time with her friends and family and cat, and enjoys sharing a good meal.

Yessenia’s advice for students:

“I know it may seem scary to do things by yourself, but everyone is in the same boat and you are very likely to find and connect with people. Even though you are scared or may not have the time, I encourage you to make some time and please take that step in joining that club or event you wanted to go or talk to that TA, classmate or teacher because this is where life long friends, connections, and opportunities are made. Engineering is more fun and manageable when you are not alone. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help! There is always someone who is willing to help you, TRUST me.
