Academic Success Specialist, Retention Specialist – Undergraduate Academic Advisor
After earning her bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in 2014, Maria joined the Electrical Engineering Advising office team as a Student Services Coordinator, Associate. For two years, she was the first point of contact for a diverse student population as they progressed through their academic career. She also managed the advising front desk operations, supervised the front desk student staff, and served as direct support to the undergraduate academic advising team. In 2016, she became an Academic Success Specialist. She is thankful for the opportunity to work with students. In her spare time she enjoys shopping at local farmer’s markets, spoiling her three young nephews, and practicing yoga.
Assistant Director, Academic Services
Robert earned a BA in Psychology from DePaul University in Chicago, IL in 2000 and a MS in Counseling and Student Personnel from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2002. Being a college student can be one of the richest and most exciting times in life. Robert works here to help students connect to that excitement. When he’s not working with students at ASU, Robert spends time with his family and enjoys hiking and biking in the desert.
Assistant Director, Research Advancement
Joelina is the Assistant Director, Research Advancement for the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering. Her primary responsibility is to assist faculty and researchers in the development, preparation, and submission of sponsored project proposals to various federal and non-federal agencies as well as provide analytical and financial oversight of sponsored awards. She serves as a consultant to management on policies, plans and objectives. She interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters. She represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult and technical issues associated with sponsored projects. She interacts with faculty and staff across the seven schools of Engineering to provide support and effective management of sponsored projects.
Joelina received her Certification in Research Administration (CRA) in 2009 from the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC). Joelina has been in the research administration field for 13 years. She joined ASU in 1999 and left for a brief period in 2010 to work as the Manager of the Sponsored Research Office for a non-profit Medical Research Institute in California. She recently returned to ASU in 2014.
Academic Success Coordinator – Graduate Academic Advisor
Lynn Pratte joined the ECEE advising team in 2015. As a graduate advisor, Lynn advises and counsels ECEE graduate students (with last name A-F) regarding academics. She first joined ASU as a staff member in 2013 and has experience in graduate and international admissions. Lynn holds a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability and a Master of Science in Environmental Resource Management.
Academic Success Advisor – Undergraduate Academic Advisor
Tom is joining the ECEE advising team after 7 years in higher education (most of which was spent as a financial aid advisor). He originally studied English Education and served as a classroom teacher for two years before making the switch to serve post-secondary students. He is the proud father of a nine-month old baby boy, which is where most of his time and energy goes. Tom does a little community service with the Valley Alano club in Tempe and with the Gilbert “Friends for Life” Animal Rescue. He is an avid reader and active in an online community (Goodreads) where he does an annual reading challenge and shares book reviews. If you want to get him talking, the fastest way is to ask what book he has been reading lately.
Manager, Undergraduate Advising
Elizabeth Sowell joined the ECEE advising team in 2012. She has worked in the Fulton Schools of Engineering in student services and advising since 2007 and has advised both undergraduate and graduate students. She earned her master’s degree in Religious Studies from Claremont Graduate University. She enjoys helping students reach their educational goals at ASU

Allison was raised in Tempe, Arizona and is a graduate of ASU’s Master of Counseling program. She worked in community mental health for two years before returning to ASU as an undergraduate academic advisor in the School of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering. In her free time, Allison enjoys cooking, volunteering, and spending time outdoors.
